Queues!

The Bus.

Queue this side for the no. 47

The other side for the no. 36

Am I in the right line?

Is this the side for ……?

Will there be room inside?

Was the bus early?

Will it be late?

Have I missed it?

Here it comes!

Is it the right one?

Will it go all the way,

Or will I have to change at the garage?

Oh! It didn’t even stop!!

The Supermarket Checkout.

What a lot of people!

What a lot of queues!

What a lot of food!

Which will be the quickest?

I think I’ll try this one.

No, maybe this one is moving faster.

Oh no, what’s the hold up?

A price question!

You want to go in front of me?

In a hurry?

Only one item!

Paying cash!

Oh! I didn’t see that ‘CASH ONLY’.

Really? No cards?

Yes, I’m sorry this till really is ‘CASH ONLY’.

Back to the end,

And begin again.

The Doctors’.

Appointments only for Drs Smith and Jones

Emergencies to Dr Brown.

‘We are very sorry but Dr Brown is running late!’

At least half an hour to wait.

Never mind, take a seat,

I wish I’d brought a book.

A magazine!

I do wish that baby would stop crying.

‘We are very sorry to say,

Dr Brown has been called to an accident.

Drs. Smith and Jones will deal with emergencies after their appointments.’

Maybe I’ll e ill a week tomorrow.

Dr Brown has gone where?

              Africa!

Don’t they know I’m not well.

The sales.

Sales. Sales. SALES.

Out come the bargain hunters.

It’s something of a celebrity position,

‘First in the line!’

but what about me,

I waited nearly as long.

It was cold and wet and dark,

But we waited.

There were such bargains!

The hour came.

The doors were open.

There was apush from behind.

I fell over

Oh my knee!

And all those bargains gone!!

Oh well there’ll always be the Summer Sales!

The traffic.

Why are the lights always on red?

And for so long?

Slow down.

Which lane do I dodge into?

Sorry! I’m in a hurry.

Oh no! it’s all coming to a halt.

How long?

No ‘Road Work’ signs!

Could be an accident.

I could be here for hours.

Oh it’s only a round about,

And which way was I going?

Queue to see the game, the play, the concert…              take your pick?

A queue for water, real water, from ‘the well of life’.

And the voice says,

‘The first shall be last and the last shall be first’.

And there’s a small child running to the front!

One day I may self publish my word doodles, but I thought I would share this one with you, because as we move through this Easter season, I am aware among all the sense of excitement that the Resurrection community found Jesus says ‘wait’. I am not very good at waiting, making space to be still and attend to God. However, I increasingly believe it is in the waiting place that we often find our direction, new energy, vision.

How about you?
