Dear Friends,

                            So February is nearly over. I must admit it is usually my least favourite month but I cannot say that this year. The weather has been bright ( I heard on the news today that it has been the sunniest on record ) and although cold at times the sunshine has brought out the spring flowers. So I find myself, instead of thinking “Will spring ever come?” glad and thankful for new life we see all around us.

                            March brings Easter – early this year – and its joy. However before the joy there is the horror of the Cross. Sometimes when I hear the words “Take up their cross and follow me” I wonder at the enormity of what following Jesus can mean. And I remember Dora, a wonderful Christian lady, a lady of prayer and service who thought that she had never done anything for God because she had never risked her life as a missionary in Africa, India or China. Then I think of St. David, part of whose last message to his monks was “Do the little things”.

                            Most of us spend our life doing little things, smiling when we don’t feel like it, giving part of our time to someone who needs it, offering our gifts to help others, taking a cake or casserole to someone to lend them a hand, the million and one little things that we do because we have committed our life to Christ and we endeavour to follow Him. 

                            Taking up your cross means following the example of Jesus and that can lead us into situations we would rather not be in. However most of the time it means doing the little things of love that not only make other peoples lives better but also improve our own.

                            This Easter time may we all know the joy of Resurrection life that assures us that as we do the little things the God we know in Jesus is with us
