MHA - a message from Rev. Dr. Keith Albans
2008 marks the 65th anniversary of the founding of MHA by the Methodist
Conference. Given the significance of 65 years in the human lifespan, we
are wanting to mark the event as an opportunity to give thanks for the
past, celebrate our story and underline the fact that we have no
intention of retiring!
In 2004 we held a service in London on Sunday 29th February and held
similar services in all of our homes and schemes. So in 2008 we are
planning to make use of the extra Leap Year day once more, with a
central event and similar ones in each of our projects.
We are most fortunate that our President, Lord Archer of Sandwell, has
invited us to make use of a room at the House of Lords for the central
event on Friday 29th February 2008 from 5.30pm to 7.00pm. As well as an
opportunity to tour the House of Lords, there will also be a concert,
refreshments and the launch of a new book pdating the MHA story from
1983 to the present day.
We would very much like to extend an invitation to you as a
representative of the Methodist family, to be part of this event, for
which of course we would pay travelling expenses. At this stage I am
simply asking if you are able and would wish to receive an invitation,
and if so that you would reserve the date in your diary! I would
appreciate it if you could let me know as soon as possible.
MHA is always looking for ways of increasing an awareness of our work
among ecumenical partners. Rather than simply trying to do this through
national Church structures, it seems sensible to work regionally through
people such as yourself, making use of those ecumenical links that you
are part of. Given the nature and concentration of our work in your area
of the country, I would value an opportunity to have a conversation with
you in the near future to explore ways in which we might do this. In the
meantime, if there are ecumenical contacts who you think might welcome
an invitation to the event in February, I would be grateful if you could
let me know their contact details so that I can write to them.
Wishing you every blessing
Yours
Keith
