MOG

(Men’s Outreach Group)

MOG came to Redditch Circuit, part of the Birmingham Methodist District just over two years ago as an outreach programme for men on the fringes of our churches. It was a vision of one member who saw that little was being done to encourage men into our churches and in particular the husbands of many of our female members.

MOG, now officially Men’s Outreach Group, but could easily have been Methodist Outreach Group, Men of God or even Men Only Group, meets quarterly at the local Quality Hotel for a meal and a talk by a guest speaker who shares some of his life’s experiences as well as his faith. Speakers to date have included a judge, a professional golfer and a member of a conservation group and future events planned include a talk on “Garden Spiders” and a visit from the Methodist District Chair, Rev Bill Anderson.

Our beginnings were small but we continue to grow in number and ecumenically with eighty four men from across all denominations in Redditch attending our Christmas dinner.

With  the decline of our “Church” attendance we are endeavouring to turn things around by doing something different and guess what, our ladies are now starting their own group!

We make no secret of our objectives, which are all “up front” in our brochure.

  • MOG recognises the Christian faith and the calling to invite other to share in that faith.
  • MOG extends the Love of Christ in friendship and fellowship to all who come to the meetings.
  • MOG seeks to allow everyone to consider the practical relevance of a Christian faith in their lives whether through discussion or through what has been said by the speakers.
