Examples of Churches Hosting Post offices:
Sheepy Magna, Leicestershire
The base of the tower of the medieval village parish church was converted into a permanent home for the satellite post office, open two mornings a week.
Empingham, Rutland
A space in the church hall is provided every Monday afternoon. The Post Office employee brings ‘the post office’ with her and then takes it away again at the end of the afternoon. There is hope of a second session in the week.
West Bradford, Clitheroe, Lancashire
The Post Office did the full installation of the room in an unused vestry, including computers, alarm systems, safe, telephone line etc. and they have maintained this. The post office is now open two mornings a week and a nominal rent is paid to the Methodist Church for the use of the room.
Dove Holes, Derbyshire
Run three mornings a week by a Methodist sub-postmaster from another local post office, offering the whole range of post office transactions.
All these examples have had a positive knock-on effect on the life of the churches in question, including the development of other community facilities. They reflect some of the variety of provision and arrangements that can be explored.
