Young Preacher’s Network

It seems odd doesn’t it really. There are hundreds or portrayals of the disciples as middle aged men with flowing beards. What a load of twaddle.

Think about it for a moment. How old do you think the disciples really were? 40ish? Try the age range of 16-25 and you’d be more accurate. In biblical times people rarely lived to be 40 at all. So here we are, left with these disciples after ascension, on their own. The Pentecost comes along and everything is hunky dory. Or is it? You know what these guys are still scared to hell! But the difference is they have the support of other early Christians.

Ok lets whiz forward in time 2000 years to the present day. There are still young preachers out there. In fact more than you think. I started local preacher training for the Methodist church last year when I was 16. Since then I have met about a dozen other young preachers who have had either very little or no support from their home churches. Apparently we are all too young. At Easter People 2007, God gave me the vision of setting up a network to support these young preachers, to nurture and encourage them. On the last morning of Easter People I gave my testimony and asked if any young preachers who were interested wanted to join me in a corner for a quick talk and a pray. The Young Preachers Network was born!

Our purpose is to support, nurture and encourage young preachers. We are implementing different ways to do this. A myspace account has been set up for people to people to network and meet other young preachers, www.myspace.com/youngpreachersnetwork . An official website is under construction also. A new initiative is being started off to create a ‘Guides’ system. There will be a number of ‘Guides’ to answer any questions from young preachers and to help them discover their gifts and how to use them to do God’s work. A retreat is being planned in summer 2009 as a meeting for those of the YPN to meet gather, worship, pray and get away from all the pressures of school, work and just to relax.

The network is spreading by word of mouth at the moment, so if you know a young preacher, please tell them about us!
